It was 60091, failed right over the junction blocking the Redditch branch. Engine shut down apparently.

Very true !!

It reminds me of the " old boy " at my old job who every couple of weeks would oil the hinges on the big folding garage doors. Whe I asked him why he did this he answered in his best black country, " av em doors ever squaked ? ". I replied - NO. " Av em hinges got any rust on um ? ". Again, the answer was NO !! smile.gif

I think its called PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE . . . . . . . rolleyes.gif

Its a fact if you dont maintain things they go downhill fast.
More 60 news toaday (i cant keep up with the rate these 60s are going in and out of store).

60035 has been stopped tactical reserve and shipped back to toton.
60039 has been reinstated to traffic from store at toton but has failed twice since coming out.
60010 is still at peak forest waiting a run back to toton for assesment.
The class 60 fleet is all over the place now, 60010 failed so they reinstated 60035 to cover, 035 went pop so they brought 039 in to replace it then 039 has failed in traffic, what next for the 60s?.

For out of interest,

60063 worked the Humber to Kingbury tanks today with bit of a test, DBS did a trial and extended the tank train to 36 wagons. Total tonnage was 3,614 tonnes!

Weather that remains to be a regular occurrence in the future remains unknown. But only problem was they had to leave 6 tanks on it return behind due to the shunt limit when reversing the train out of Kingsbury which could lead to a SPAD along those lines.

Cheers

When the class 60s were built they had vast tests on the SEPEX wheel slip protection system.
They were tested at 2400 tons on a slippery rail on a 1 in 100 gradient from a standing start which they past with flying colours.
The system was a computer that detected traction motor slip and slowed down the motor before the wheels started to slip, top notch tech for the time.
The 60s were also tested on 3100 ton tank trains on the flat which they also passed.
On the lickey today any class 60 hauled train with a trailing load of 1000 tons or more has to be banked, however when the 60s were new they were tested on the loaded tees steel without a banker and the 60s still kept crawling over the top with weights between 1500 and 2000 with no banker.
If the 60s can pull these tank trains at 3600 tons in their run down condition is anyones guess, but i still take my hat of to the class as they keep on going despite the lack of a major exam and yoyoing in and out of store.

Was it not suggested some time ago that 20 or 30 tugs were going to be taken out of service and give a good overhaul and then returned to front line work ?? huh.gif

If they dont hurry up there wont be 20 - 30 left to choose from at the rate they are running them down.
More news...
60010 has arrived at toton from peak forest it will be assesed then most likely stored as its currently tactical reserve.
60035, 60045 and 60071 have all been released from toton back into traffic.
Troublesome 60009 is listed as active despite being tactical reserve.
